AUS Educational Options
Dear Parents,
Below you will find the options for completing the 2019-20 academic year using e-learning platforms as approved by the Kuwait Ministry of Private Education. As part of the Ministry’s requirement parents must select an option for each student related to e-learning. Your response will be forwarded to the Ministry of Private Education. Your e-learning consent form link is below. These are times that define us all, and I want you to know although this is not what you nor the educational communities around the world envisioned, we have made the best adjustments and offerings available to us during these extraordinary circumstances. We look forward to new beginnings for our students, parents, faculty and staff when school opens this fall.
If you have been engaged in e-learning beginning March 3rd and plan to continue and complete this school year please check “Option 1”.
Option 1
- Continue all e-learning/microlearning activities that started on March 3rd as assigned along with the 4th Quarter assignments. Assignments from March 29th- May 7th will count towards 4th quarter grades. The last day for submission of make-up work is June 3rd.
If you have not engaged in e-learning beginning March 3rd, but plan to start and finish the school year, please check “Option 2.”
Option 2
- Start and complete any missing assignments and continue all e-learning work assigned going forward with the option of receiving 1:1 support. The make-up assignments from March 3rd - March 26th will be added to the 3rd quarter computation. Assignments from March 29th-May 7th will count towards 4th quarter grades. The last day for submission of all make-up work is June 3rd. From May 10th - June 3rd AUS educators will be available to provide personalized assistance for students to complete all assignments. Don’t miss this opportunity.
For those who select Option 3, you are selecting not to complete this academic school year until September of 2020.
Option 3
- Students must attend and complete a mandatory 5-6 weeks of intensive learning starting August 5th through September 17th in order to receive credit for the 19-20 school year. This means students will miss the first weeks of class for the SY 20-21 school year as they will be completing the previous school year.
For parents and students that have chosen option 3, students will be expected to complete a Summative Exam for each course/subject, prior to receiving grades for this school year. These will be administered for each subject in September.
Students (Pre-K-12) will return to school on August 5th to begin classes to complete SY 19-20. Teachers will provide instruction in the classroom with the assignments and project-based formative assessments. These classes will probably be conducted with new teachers rather than the teacher the student had the previous school year.
- Students must be in attendance for the entire 6 weeks.
- The school day will follow our regular day schedule from 7:30 am to 2:45 pm Sunday - Thursday.
- Students will be expected to meet the expectations of the course after the six weeks of instruction.
- The student will be expected to take an exam - that is comprehensive of the six weeks course
- Classes would finish Sept. 17th
- The new academic school year for these students will start on September 23rd.
- These students will be assigned other teachers for the new 20-21 academic year. That means for MS/HS there could be up to 16 teacher changes. For elementary students a minimum of 5 teacher changes within a 6 week period.
- Students are expected to make-up all the work missed from the first two weeks of the 20-21 academic year.
You are encouraged to complete the work now and not be in the situation of a child missing the first weeks of school at the next grade level. This way all students will move to the next level on time and with their peer group. It is very important that students begin the new school year in the normal way they are accustomed to after the uncertainties of this year. Due to circumstances beyond the control of any of us this year has not gone as we expected. However, we have a chance to start the year with hope and new possibilities for our entire school community. Please don’t miss this opportunity.
