Chain of Command

Following the chain of command at the American United School of Kuwait is essential for effective communication, collaboration, and decision-making. Here's a guide on how to navigate the hierarchy:
 

  1. Classroom Teacher (Level1):

    • Classroom teachers are encouraged to address day-to-day concerns within their classrooms independently.

    • For matters requiring support or guidance, teachers should engage with their immediate supervisor, the Building Principal.

  2. Building Principal (Level2):

    • The Building Principal serves as the intermediary between classroom teachers and higher levels of leadership.

    • Teachers should communicate regularly with the Building Principal to discuss classroom-specific issues, share insights, and seek guidance.

    • The Building Principal is responsible for managing the overall school environment, shaping its culture, and fostering collaboration among staff.

  3. School Psychologist or Curriculum and Instruction Specialist (Level3):

    • Teachers and the Building Principal may involve the School Psychologist or Curriculum and Instruction Specialist when specialized expertise is needed.

    • The School Psychologist focuses on students' social-emotional well-being, while the Curriculum and Instruction Specialist contributes to academic excellence.

    • Collaboration among teachers, the Building Principal, and these specialists is crucial for a well-rounded and comprehensive educational experience.

  4. Director (Level4):

    • Major decisions affecting the strategic direction and overall management of the school rest with the Director.

    • The Director collaborates with the Building Principal, School Psychologist, Curriculum and Instruction Specialist, and other leaders to set long-term goals and shape policies.

    •  While routine matters are managed at lower levels, the Director oversees decisions that have a significant impact on the institution.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Teachers communicate regularly with the Building Principal to address classroom-specific concerns.

  • Collaboration occurs between teachers, the Building Principal, and specialists to integrate support services, refine curriculum, and optimize instructional practices.

  • The Director ensures that communication flows harmoniously among all levels of leadership to achieve the school's overarching goals.

Decision-Making:

  • Classroom teachers make decisions within their classrooms, with guidance from the Building Principal.

  • The School Psychologist and Curriculum and Instruction Specialist contribute their expertise to decisions affecting the broader educational landscape.

  • The Director, working collaboratively with other leaders, holds the responsibility for major strategic decisions that shape the trajectory of the school.
