Hometown: Kuwait City, Kuwait
Background: I found my passion for teaching after beginning a career in Science. Many of the skills I learned have made their way into my classroom; no knowledge goes to waste. I strive to emphasize this to my students. I now have 10 years of teaching experience, 8 of those teaching High school English in Kuwait. Degree(s): Masters of Education; Bachelors of Arts, English
Home: Portland, Oregon U.S.A
Background: After teaching in Oregon for three years, I took an opportunity to move and work in Kuwait. For six years, my appreciation for the culture and region flourished and I consider Kuwait my second home. After deciding to take a year off to return to my family in the U.S.A., homesickness for Kuwait quickly set in and I knew I wanted to return to Kuwait the following year. I love my job and consider myself lucky to be a teacher. Furthermore, I believe education is a fundamental right for all people and try to reflect this in my classroom. Learning is a lifelong event. I foster this notion in my students, living proof that one’s education is never completed.

Background: I was born in Taiwan. My main languages were Taiwanese, Japanese, as well as Mandarin Chinese. I started learning English in Elementary school and took Spanish in college. In 1992, I went to Germany to study German because learning languages and experiencing different cultures and customs has always been of great interest to me. I graduated with Mathematics Teaching in 2015. After that, I taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Algebra 2 honors at a High School in Colorado. In 2016, I started teaching at a High School in Utah. From 2019 to 2020, I taught middle school math and Geometry in Kuwait.
Based on my experience of teaching English as a second language in Taiwan, I understand how to help students overcome the fear and difficulty in learning a foreign language and math. Because I have studied mathematics in English which is not my mother tongue, I have a unique ability to help students overcome the language barrier. My teaching philosophy is that it is more important to understand the concept than just memorize the equations; therefore, my students will be more capable of critical thinking in terms of math. From my tutoring and teaching experience, I know that I have the ability to help students find their confidence and self-esteem in solving math problems.

Background: Coming from a family with a musical tradition in teaching and composing vocal music, I felt empowered and motivated to discover very early that human voice is the ultimate instrument. Additionally, interaction through music is one of the most essential activities for every community. I've started my career in Romania at Ovidius State University where I taught for 7 years harmony, music history, music analisys and choir, participated in a national research grant, published music reviews and founded the choral group Voces Felices. In 2010 I moved oversears with my family to Saudi Arabia where I taught grade 3 to 12 music for 4 years. After my 2nd daughter was born in Jeddah we decided to move and explore China where I taught choir, guitar and coached swimming. I am delighted to discover Kuwait and AUS community and am looking forward to deepening my understanding about the local culture. My passions are sports, fishing and learning about other cultures. Looking forward for a great experience!!
