Hometown: Kuwait City, Kuwait
Background: I found my passion for teaching after beginning a career in Science. Many of the skills I learned have made their way into my classroom; no knowledge goes to waste. Deidre Cornberg
ELA Teacher
Degree(s): Bachelor of Arts in Education
Home: Cape Town, South Africa
Background: I am delighted to join the AUS family. My teaching journey began in Cape Town, South Africa, where I taught high school Geography and English. In 2004, I relocated to Kuwait with my family and have spent the last two decades dedicated to teaching High School English across various schools, including AP English Literature and Composition in recent years.
As a mother of two daughters who grew up attending school in Kuwait, I have a deep appreciation for this educational community and the vital role our schools play in shaping young minds. Beyond the classroom, I am an avid reader who loves getting lost in a good book.
My primary goal as an educator is to foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom where students feel empowered to express their ideas and engage thoughtfully with the human experience through literature. Great literature broadens perspectives, builds empathy, and helps us better understand ourselves and the world around us. As C.S. Lewis so beautifully put it, “We read to know we are not alone.”

Home: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Background: Engineer By Degree, Mathematics Teacher By Passion!
Here's a story on how I knew I had a passion for teaching. When I was a university student, I used to tutor other students who were struggling in Mathematics. One time, a student came to me and told me that he's failing his math course and his only chance was his final exam. I started giving him lessons and prepared him for his final exam. When he did the exam and his grade was out, he sent me a message saying how shocked and happy he was because of his grade. He got a final grade of an "A", His success gave me a satisfying feeling and made me proud. This was when I knew that being an educator is beyond just teaching a lesson, it is believing in your students and giving them all the support they need to reach success. I'm excited to be part of the AUS family as a HS Math Teacher.
