I was fortunate enough to teach Pre-K in Egypt for two years and six years in Kuwait for both Pre-K and Kindergarten. I am currently working towards my Masters in Teaching with a concentration in Birth through Kindergarten at Winston Salem State University. I am grateful for the opportunity to teach at AUS and I look forward to working with the students and helping them reach their full potential. Background: I am extremely excited to be a part of the AUS family! This marks the beginning of my 17th year of teaching. After spending four years teaching in Alabama, I decided to embark on an international teaching career. Before coming to Kuwait, I taught in China for 12 years. Throughout my career, I have taught Special Education, PreK, and Kindergarten, and have also held leadership positions in Early Childhood education. I believe that learning happens constantly and is intertwined across all developmental domains. As an educator, my role is to provide a safe, positive, and fun learning environment, while nurturing the whole child to guide them through their developmental stages and fostering a lifelong excitement for learning.
I am thrilled to be joining AUS alongside my husband, Mr. Jacob Brown, who is the Elementary PE teacher, and our sweet dog, Buttercup. My hobbies include cooking (and eating!), spending time with family and friends, and exploring new places.

Background: Greetings! I am Jessica Thomas, a first-year Kindergarten teacher at AUS. Although I am new to AUS, I am not new to education—this year marks my 13th year in the field. Originally from Dallas, Texas, I hold a Master’s in Education with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in English. My international teaching journey began in South Korea, and upon returning to Texas, I taught Pre-Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade.
It is my greatest joy to help my students meet their goals and flourish both academically and socially. My diverse background in education equips me to teach any child and help them grow into successful, globally-minded individuals. As Malcolm X wisely said, 'Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.' Background: My passion for the past thirty-eight years has been working with culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse students and their families. Being an empathetic person, the heartbeat of who I am are the authentic connections and relationships built with others, especially with students and their families. Another one is “People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care" John Maxwell.
No matter where I've been in the world, I consider myself a global citizen; I'm zealous about learning about and celebrating the many cultures and customs of those I meet. I've taught 3rd, 4th, and 6th grade in the USA for 32 years. I've also taught Kindergarten and 3rd grade for 4 years in Kuwait, and my most recent experience was teaching 1st grade in Seoul, South Korea.
I have 3 grown daughters who live in the USA. Over the years, they've cultivated an outlook of: respecting self and others, striving for personal best, curiosity, creativity, cooperation, collaboration, compassion, consideration, connection, communication, along with celebration all intertwined with love.

Throughout the peak of my career I earned a few units in Master of Arts in Education.
My career path continued in Kuwait where I had the opportunity to work for 5 years as both an early years and primary teacher, an experience which was great and fulfilling. I do believe that being a teacher is a noble profession; it takes courage and passion. I am honored to be part of the AUS staff. I have 22 years of experience within the State of Kuwait in teaching the Arabic language to natives as well as a foreign language. I am looking forward to using my years of rich experience in teaching and learning to enhance the overall student educational journey including integrating technology into our experiences. I believe that it is essential to encourage students learning Arabic to do so with an active attitude, love and naturalness.
In addition to my teaching experience, I have authored several educational books for the study of Arabic by foreign-born, non-native speakers; including designing, drawing and printing my own pedagogic posters. With a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic Literature, certification as a Life Coach, and expertise in teaching through play, I have dedicated 25 years to sharing a deep appreciation for the Arabic language and its rich literary heritage.
My teaching career began at a bilingual school, where I spent five years cultivating young minds. This was followed by 20 years with the Ministry of Education in Kuwait, including five years teaching Arabic and Social Studies. Over the past year, I transitioned to freelance education, where I coached and taught Arabic to both native and non-native speakers, consistently guiding learners to achieve A+ results.
My educational philosophy centers on the belief that every student can grow and progress in a safe, fun, and constructive environment. Background: I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to begin this new journey to serve AUS students, parents, and educators as an Instructional Coach. My name is Dr. Patra Wiley Smith, and I have been an educator for over thirty years. I have worked in one of the top ten school districts in the United States for over thirty years. My career path has allowed me to implement multiple instructional programs promoting academic achievement, equity, and access for all students. My roles have ranged from classroom teacher to site-based administrator, district-based administrator, and Program Manager.
During my career, I have been the Program Director for five Gaining Early Awareness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) grants. The grants were multi-million-dollar federal grants for a university as well as my school district. My responsibility has included being a math teacher, department head, coordinating the implementation of Springboard mathematics for grades 6-12, and District Director for Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). I have worked as a consultant nationally and internationally for the State of Florida, the College Board, and the National Council for Community Education (NCCEP), focusing on facilitating professional learning sessions that support educators and leaders in best practices for all students to be successful academically and socially and emotionally. Lastly, I advocate for all students and parents by supporting them in formulating a plan for their child after graduation. I am passionate about ensuring students are career and college ready as well as globally competitive.

Background: Hi! My name is Pete, and I am excited to continue my journey as part of the AUS team. I bring seven years of teaching experience from the Philippines, where I developed a deep passion for education. My career began with three years as a Grade 1 teacher and two years as a university instructor at the same institution. I then spent a year as a Grade 6 teacher before dedicating three years to teaching multiple grades (K-Grade 2) with the Philippine Department of Education, where I also assumed the role of school-in-charge.
Since 2017, I have been working as an instructional coach. This role has allowed me to further my commitment to empowering educators and supporting teachers in helping AUS students reach their fullest potential. I am deeply inspired by the transformative power of education and am dedicated to supporting teachers in their mission to nurture and develop our students. My love for travel and learning about diverse cultures inspired me to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Management.

Background: It is my passion for knowledge and determination to turn information into action that has contributed to my career in Science. My teaching journey commenced in 2002 when I took on the role of a preschool teacher. Prior to that, my focus had been on computer technology, and I had been working in the computer field. My initial experience in education involved a year of preschool teaching, followed by three years as a preschool coordinator.
Subsequently, I transitioned to teaching English to 5th graders and Science to students in 6th and 8th grades for a year. My career path then led me to Kuwait, where I taught in elementary school for four years and served as a coordinator for an additional two years. During this time, I had the privilege of instructing students from diverse cultural backgrounds. This invaluable experience laid the foundation for my journey at AUS.
Since becoming a member of the AUS community, I've had the privilege of fulfilling various roles within the realm of science education. Initially, I assumed the position of the science lab instructor at the Elementary school, guiding students through their scientific explorations. Later, as a science teacher for both Elementary and Middle school students.
Taking on the role of Science Coordinator and contributing to the AUS Curriculum and Instruction team, my primary objective is to provide unwavering support to educators. Specifically, my focus lies in assisting teachers with the implementation of the FOSS program. By doing so, my aim is to empower students to reach their utmost potential in the field of science.
During my leisure hours, I find delight in activities such as painting, engaging in various forms of art and craft, and embarking on journeys of travel and exploration.
