Technology

The AUS Middle School was opened in September of 2014 containing students in grades 6, 7, and 8. As a part of our mission at AUS we press toward that goal of folding 21st century digital technology skills into the students learning. In that first year, AUS Middle School implemented a 1:1 program to be used intrinsically as a tool when and where it is needed.

The AUS Middle School has an expectation of the entire staff to seek out and design classroom instruction that incorporates 21st century skills. The Information Technology instructors are specialists who teach IT skills courses. The combination of regular classroom instructors and the IT instructors provide students the opportunity to learn new skills as well as use those learned skills purposefully within the framework of their others classes.

All teachers are responsible for delivering content and curriculum following the Common Core standards. Additionally, our students, teachers, and administrators are responsible for following the standards from the International Society of Technology in Education, known as the ISTE Standards. These standards are grade specific and support the student throughout their educational process. There are informational and technology benchmarks for each grade level.

Digital Citizenship, Internet Safety, and Information Privacy are topics covered within the IT courses. In Middle School, we continue to introduce and practice keyboarding with the goal of helping students become more effective and efficient in their work. IT classrooms are additionally equipped with more full featured desktop computers offering both Windows and Apple operating systems. The lab’s purpose is to support those more intensive applications of desktop publishing, video editing, web design, and programming.

The entire AUS family of students, staff, and parents have access on-line to the Portal. All parties are able to access grades, calendars, notifications, attendance, and communications. The Middle School also incorporates Google Apps for Education which is a suite of free productivity tools for classroom collaboration.
