English Language Learner (ELL) Support
The high school at AUS is progressively working towards building a dedicated English Language Learner (ELL) program as our school develops. To ensure the academic success of our students with limited English proficiency, the expansion of our existing ELL program in the elementary and middle schools is a priority. At AUS, we believe in embedding strong ELL pedagogical strategies in all subjects across the curriculum to ensure the academic achievement of all students, not only our students who are non-native English speakers. As such, our teachers receive ongoing professional development in integrating ELL strategies into their lessons, no matter what content area they teach.
AUS is a member of the WIDA International School Consortium (WISC). WIDA advances academic language development and academic achievement for linguistically diverse students through high quality standards, assessments, research, and professional development. Our school utilizes the WIDA framework as a guide for language support and assessments. As our high school ELL program develops, we will expand the use of this framework and standards to ensure consistency and quality of the program.
