Educational Technology and Digital Learning
Head of Educational Technology and Digital Learning

Dr. Rachel Eckelson – Head of Educational Technology and Digital Learning
With 20 years of experience in education, including over seven years dedicated to educational technology, I bring a deep understanding of how innovation can support meaningful learning. I began my career in 2005 at a rural school in Tennessee before moving to Kuwait in 2014, where I helped open the AUS middle school. Along the way, I earned my Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from Liberty University, where my research focused on improving instructional practices in technology integration, problem-based learning, and global citizenship education. My professional experience includes leading professional development, mentoring teachers, supporting curriculum design, and ensuring that digital learning initiatives align with both theory and practice.
I believe that learning should be an active, meaningful, and transformative experience. My philosophy is shaped by the idea that students learn best when they build understanding through curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. By encouraging students to take ownership of their learning, we not only help them grow academically but also prepare them to become thoughtful, responsible global citizens.
At AUS, as the Head of Educational Technology and Digital Learning, I collaborate with teachers and administrators to ensure that technology is used purposefully to enhance student learning. Serving as lead on the five-year AI and Educational Technology Plan, we focus on teacher growth, innovative approaches, and continuous improvement. My goal is to make sure that every student benefits from engaging, student-centered learning experiences that prepare them for the future.
Beyond my professional role, I enjoy balancing my love for education with personal passions such as playing golf, traveling, singing, and playing the trumpet and tenor saxophone. These interests reflect my belief in lifelong learning, creativity, and well-being.
Throughout my journey, my commitment has remained the same: to help create learning environments that not only support academic achievement but also spark transformation, empowering students and educators alike to grow, adapt, and lead.
In the words of John Dewey: “If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.”

Global Online Academy (GOA)

AUS’s Partnership with Global Online Academy (GOA)
AUS is proud to partner with Global Online Academy (GOA), an international consortium of leading independent schools. This collaboration enriches our educational offerings by providing AUS students with access to a diverse array of online courses taught by highly experienced educators from around the globe.
What is GOA?
GOA is a non-profit organization that reimagines learning to empower students and educators worldwide. It offers a unique online learning environment that emphasizes student-centered pedagogy, collaborative projects, and real-world application of knowledge. GOA's courses are designed to be rigorous, engaging, and to foster essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, communication, and adaptability.
How it Works
AUS students on the distinguished track (Grades 10-12) interested in taking a GOA course will work with our academic advisors to select a course that aligns with their academic goals and schedule. GOA courses are integrated into the AUS curriculum and contribute towards a student's transcript. The online format allows for flexible learning, while maintaining the high academic standards expected by AUS.
Learning Pathways
Students who are seeking to demonstrate depth of interest in a particular field of study can earn one of GOA’s eight pathways to earn a pathway certification. A pathway certificate is earned when students complete three or more courses from a particular pathway. Global Online Academy’s pathways include: Art, Media & Design; Business, Economics & Finance; Computer Science & Engineering; Global Studies; Health Sciences; Justice, Ethics & Human Rights; Mathematics & Quantitative Reasoning; and Psychology & Neuroscience.
Our Commitment to Innovation
The partnership with GOA reflects AUS's ongoing commitment to providing an innovative and globally-minded education. We believe that by offering these unique online learning opportunities, we are empowering our students to become adaptable, lifelong learners prepared for success in a rapidly changing world.
