Coffee Mornings
Coffee mornings are a chance for parents to meet and help build a stronger community within the school. Coffee mornings are usually held on the third Sunday of every month in the PTSO.

PTSO's next coffee morning is coming up and we have an extra-special treat this time. Not only will we have the chance to have some coffee and a snack but we will also have a chance to listen to a very interesting talk on the subject of "Young Children's Independence at Home" by our expert guest speaker, Dr.Duna Mashaan Al Khudhair.
Dr.Duna Al Khudair has carried out cutting-edge research in the field of child education in some leading US universities, and has also applied her findings in some of New York's finest early childhood schools. Her unique blend of in-depth academic knowledge and wide-ranging practical experience in the field of early childhood education and development, would be invaluable to anyone who interacts with or who is responsible for a young child. As you can see from her bio below, she would be able to address your queries on a wide range of child development areas. We look forward to seeing you all for a morning filled with meaningful interaction.
Dr. Duna Mashaan Alkhudhair
Duna Alkhudhair graduated from The College of William and Mary in 2015 with a PhD in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership—concentration in K-12 General Administration and Curriculum Leadership. Her research focus is the development of creativity in the early childhood classroom. Other research interests include literacy development in young children.
She obtained her Masters Degree from NYU in Early Childhood Education, specializing in Montessori Education. She received her Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from The University of Colorado, Boulder.
Duna's work experiences at some of New York City’s leading early childhood schools, comprise head teacher responsibilities, curriculum development, school admissions, teacher education, professional development, and parent education.
Teacher and parent education in literacy, creativity, fine/gross motor development, designing child centered environments, and promoting young children's independence, are amongst her areas of expertise.

Teachers give us so much. A boost of confidence when we really need one, extra help when we're having trouble and a welcoming presence when everything else seems out of control. Though we know that we can't thank them enough, we can take a moment during national teacher appreciation week to share our appreciation for the special educators in our lives.
THE HISTORY
In the United States, people started celebrating national teacher day in 1953 when Eleanor Roosevelt persuaded congress to set aside a day to recognize educators. The origins of the idea for the day are unclear however they date to the early 1940's. Some references cite the advocacy of a Wisconsin teacher and other references credit the efforts of a teacher in Arkansas for the first work to establish a teacher appreciation day. One of these teachers is thought to have written to Eleanor Roosevelt urging her to take up the cause. Teacher Appreciation Day didn't become a national day until March 7, 1980 after the National Education Association lobbied congress. In 1984 the National Parent Teacher Association designated the first full week of May as teacher appreciation week.
In our modern day, students all around the world celebrate their teachers in many different ways. It's always the thought that counts.
